Terra Materials Palette

Terra Materials Palette is an exploration of color as something not only seen but felt. Each piece in the series isolates a single color and expands it into a tactile landscape, composed of diverse, earth-derived materials. Preserved moss, leather, plant-based fibers, and pigments drawn from botanical sources such as algae come together to form richly layered surfaces that invite close, sensory engagement. Rather than presenting color as a flat visual field, these works consider its physical presence—how it lives within texture, density, softness, and structure. A green is no longer just green; it becomes velvety, coarse, dampened, or resilient depending on the material that carries it. Color shifts from abstraction to embodiment.

 

Central to the exhibition is the act of touch. Viewers are encouraged to move beyond observation and into interaction using handheld magnifying glasses that go with each painting. The looking glass is to experience each palette through their hands as much as their eyes. In doing so, the work challenges traditional boundaries of display and preservation, proposing a more intimate, human connection to material and color. Rooted in natural processes and organic matter, Terra Materials Palette reflects on the relationship between the earth’s resources and our sensory perception. It invites a slower way of seeing—one that lingers, feels, and reconnects with the material origins of color itself.
