Painting with Pokeberry: On Saturday, August 29 from 10 - Noon. We will embark on a color journey to deepen our understanding of using invasive species who give rise to color, its country of origin and develop a plant based pigment using historical methods. This is an 18+ class, beginner to intermediate workshop. Registration: This is a free online and offline workshop. We will forage, we will need to use gloves and PPE (personal, protective equipment). Pokeberry is a poisonous plant and yet it yields the most beautiful magenta.

Come and experience Bumblebee and Blooms as part of the exhibition at the SWOPE Art Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana, on view from
October 2, 2026, through January 10, 2027.
Bumblebee and Blooms was inspired by the work of the Red-Tail Land Conservancy in Muncie, Indiana, and photographed onsite at the Red-Tail Nature Preserve. The painting celebrates native pollinators and the restored prairies stewarded by the conservancy to support imperiled species, including the rusty patched bumblebee featured in the work. The bumblebee now rests within an observation disc embedded in the painting. No pollinators were harmed in the creation of this piece. The bumblebee was ethically foraged after its natural life cycle and carefully preserved within the artwork.
Created entirely from plant-based materials, Bumblebee and Blooms is painted using pigments made from ethically foraged natural materials. The handmade frame was crafted from wood sourced from a sustainably managed forest. When displayed indoors in a stable environment, the painting is designed to last a lifetime. If returned to the earth; however, it will naturally decompose.
As an artist committed to a sustainable practice, my hope is to inspire a deeper appreciation for our wild lands, wildlife, and the pollinators that sustain the ecosystems upon which all life—including our own—depends. The opening reception will be held from 5:00–8:00 p.m on October 2, 2026.
